As architects and designers, you play a pivotal role in shaping the spaces that reflect our national identity. However, incorporating First Nations culture into the built environment in a respectful, ethical, and meaningful way can be challenging. That’s why we have created “New Wave of Indigenous Design”, a CPD session designed to provide foundational knowledge on this crucial aspect of design. Created in collaboration with our partner, Dreamtime Flooring, an 100% Indigenous Owned Business. 

Learning Outcomes: 

• Understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People’s aspirations to care for their Country and how these inform design.
• How to incorporate First Nations design into your commercial interior?
• How to understand and respect country in a meaningful way throughout the design process?
• How to bring participatory design principles into your design process to effectively collaborate with local mob and your First Nations representatives?
• How to address procurement targets whilst still meeting client brief requirements?

By participating in this CPD, you will gain insights into how to enrich your design projects with Indigenous narratives and create spaces that honour the deep history and cultural significance of First Nations communities. You will also explore how to apply procurement strategies that support Indigenous businesses, aligning with national policies like the Indigenous Procurement Policy (IPP).
