As we come into the world, we are each given a canvas, ready to be painted with our own story. These canvases are not necessarily blank and often bring affordances or limitations, depending on our personal and social circumstances. Even so, it’s up to us what we do with our canvas. When society is equitable and inclusive, we each have the agency to create a completely new story - our own. The Social Canvas collection speaks to the triumph of the human spirit. This collection is a result of a collaboration with ArtLifting, using the work of artist Charlie French as a point of departure.

This can only come from engaging with a 100% Indigenously owned business-like Dreamtime Flooring. Josh being a Yorta Yorta man raised in Morwell, VIC on Gunai Kurnai Country himself, wanted to create a business that celebrated the Indigenous culture through flooring while engaging with other Indigenous businesses, helping to streamline income back into Indigenous communities.

For generations, Indigenous people have shared culture through stories and artwork. At Dreamtime Flooring, Indigenous heritage is drawn from to celebrate this rich culture through the flooring medium in the hopes of preserving those stories for our future generations. 

Dreamtime's mission is to have as many buildings as possible for current and future generations to see Aboriginal ancestry and culture with a particular focus on public buildings: Government, council, schools, libraries and galleries. Their intention is not only focused around sharing their culture with generations to come but also to engage these future generations with employment opportunities, apprenticeships and traineeships, as they believe it is a vital step into raising a talented, educated Indigenous community with the footprints to walk towards the future.

Inspired by expansive communities of lichens that grow together on bark and rock formations, playing a role in our ecosystems, the Lichen Community collection has been designed to provide a refined solution for creating collaborative environments, bringing people together. Rooted in the concept of symbiosis, Lichen Community defines communal spaces through colour and texture. This fresh take on the original Lichen collection offers an additional bark texture to join the popular stone base, serving as ground textures for the multi-hued lichens that grow together in place.


<h2>Biophilic design, locally made</h2>
Biophilic design aims to enhance humankind’s innate biological connection with nature, bringing natural elements into interior spaces and mimicking natural patterns. This new collection concentrates on mimicking the growth patterns of real lichens on stone and tree bark, incorporating colours that takes us on a visual journey through the forest, from the floor into the trees with the new warm, bark-grey background and soft, more muted highlights. Drawing from the natural world allows us to create spaces a little more connected to our roots, which can have a profound impact the health and wellbeing of building occupants.

One of the key features of Lichen Community is its biophilic three-plank system which allows for wayfinding and the creation of unique large-scale installations. By setting the more visually active Macro Bloom II style in a field of the Stone Community of Bark Community style, transitioning between them with Micro Bloom II, resulting in an organic, seamless installation. Amanda York is a highly accomplished Interior Designer with over 20 years’ experience and is currently the Interiors Lead for Grimshaw Architects.Amanda has been responsible for delivering a wide variety of award-winning projects throughout Australia including public/cultural, hospitality/hotel, retail, sports, education and workplace. Most notably she was the Interior Design Lead for Optus Stadium Perth and Marvel Stadium Melbourne where she played a key role in the design of the team facilities, function rooms and hospitality offerings across the general admission and premium product spaces.Amanda has always been drawn to ambitious large-scale cultural and community projects that require a deep understanding of the importance of designing for the human experience. As a prerequisite for the ECS program, carpet manufacturers must comply with the Code of Practice for Environmental Management (including performance criteria for raw materials, the manufacturing process, the carpet during its use and at the end of its life).

This stringent program is a Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) approved third party, with Green Star Level 4 certification providing at least a minimum of 7 Green Star points.

Our most popular carpets and hard flooring, the Mid-range carpet and hard flooring category offers all-around performance with excellent comfort, design and features, including stain resistant carpet, wear resistant carpet, soil resistance carpet and fade resistant carpet that’s often Australian made, New Zealand made and designed for local conditions. 
Mid-range hard flooring options include extra scratch resistant flooring, dent resistant flooring, engineered flooring that looks just like real timber, water resistant flooring and more. Mid priced carpets and hard floors are most often used to add value to owner-occupied homes and higher-end investment properties. They really hit the sweet spot for designer carpet boasting some of the best features, with incredible value.

<h3>We Have Something Exciting to Declare.</h3>

In a marketplace increasingly focused on environmental considerations and issues around sustainability, Godfrey Hirst are incredibly proud to have products officially approved Declare® LBC Red List Free.

The International Living Future Institute (ILFI), and local affiliate the Living Future Institute of Australia (LFIA), are organisations committed to driving sustainable change in the Australian Built environment through the development of leading edge programs, that are designed to radically change our approach to building and construction.

Predicated on creating a healthier built environment, the Declare® program delivers clear, unambiguous information about building material specifications. Participating manufacturers are required to disclose a Product’s entire constituent chemical composition to a threshold of 100-parts-per-million; essentially creating a ‘nutrition’ label of ingredients.

<h3>A product transparency program</h3>

Each Declare® label is compared against a list of worst-inclass materials, better known as the Red List. Chemicals on the Red List can pose an increased risk of:

<ul>
	<li>Polluting the environment</li>
	<li>Bio-accumulation of contaminants progressing up the food chain</li>
	<li>Negative health implications for factory personnel, construction industry workers and building occupants</li>
</ul>

Aware of our role in developing products that homeowners can comfortably put in their homes, we worked with our entire supply chain to identify, source and utilise the healthiest possible manufacturing ingredients. When we were confident our products met the stringent sustainability and toxic free chemical standards, we applied for LFIA Declare® approval.

<h3>The Declare® initiative has three declaration statuses:</h3>

	<li>LBC Red List Free - Complete ingredient disclosure revealing ZERO Red List chemicals</li>
	<li>LBC Red List Approved - Where chemicals or product ingredients have no available public information, or a manufacturer is unable to publicly identify an ingredient due to proprietary registration. Products may potentially contain Red List chemicals, which, if identified, will be highlighted in orange</li>
	<li>Declared - This base level of transparency, while revealing a product’s ingredients, will nevertheless contain some Red List ingredients, which will also be highlighted in orange</li>
</ul>

<h3>This label addresses three key concerns:</h3>
<ul>
	<li>Where does a product originate?</li>
	<li>What is it made of?</li>
	<li>Where does it end up at the end of its life?</li>
</ul>
